MITA NAG

NEW RELEASE!

Tucked in a back alley, off of BR Road in the Dum Dum section of North Kolkata, we find the supremely talented Vidushi Mita Nag in the music room of her family home. She performs here with N. Uday Kumar on Tabla and renders a beautiful, intimate Raga Yaman.

PUJA

Produced by Mustafa Bhagat. This record represents a full day’s journey of the sun. The morning raga Charukeshi makes its way through the heat of an afternoon Bhimapalsi, basks in the sweet evening Kafi and finally savors the light of a sunrise Bhairavi. An entire all-night Indian music program on two sides. Mustafa plays Sitar and David Freeman plays Tabla.

OVERVIEW EFFECT

Produced and Performed by David Freeman. The musicians featured on this record come from all backgrounds including Argentina, India, Pakistan and the United States. As a result, embedded in the music are messages of tolerance, diversity, inclusion and conviction -- messages I hold dear.

ARRANGED MARRIAGE

The Big Takeover's Chuck Foster describes it: "Mustafa Bhagat’s (The Biryani Boys) beautiful sitar expertly explores the space between sound, drone and silence, while Jerry Adler ([EX OH], Wave Sleep Wave, The Blam, Flugente) creates a swirling electronic squelch borne from his effects-laden guitar and synthesizer.”

SITAR DUETS

Pandit Manilal Nag, from a famous, venerable family of traditional musicians, is one of India's senior and most renowned sitarists. A master of improvisation, he performs duets with his daughter, Mita Nag, a highly regarded sitarist in her own right.

KRISHNA BHATT

Krishna Bhatt (Sitar) and Anindo Chatterjee (Tabla) at their intoxicating best on a warm Spring night in Brooklyn! Both musicians have excellent pedigrees and training — Krishna hails from a long line of Rajasthani Sanskrit scholars, and became a disciple of Pt. Ravi Shankar. Anindo was a child prodigy — at five, he became All-India Radio's youngest artist and went on to tour with the late Pt. Nikhil Banerjee until his death.
